Soft, sandy beaches and emerald green waters characterize the small, upscale town of Indian Beach. The town of Indian Beach is covered by lush maritime forests, surrounding the area divided by Salter Path, with Indian Beach to the east and west. This stretch of less than two square miles (5.2 square kilometers) was named as such after the discovery of Indian burial mounds, before the town’s incorporation in 1973. Indian Beach is a tourist’s delight during the summer season and visitors flock to the area. The turtle conservation program of Indian Beach is managed by volunteers who work in conjunction with the Bogue Banks Sea Turtle Project and the North Carolina Aquarium.
