Pakistan Bleeds with Bomb Blasts and Inflation

POLITICS   / K. Venkateshwar Rao 19 FEBRUARY 2020     While Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is jealously pursuing his foreign jaunts to seek support from the Muslim nations against India’s accession of Kashmir and to prevent Pakistan from being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) over inadequate measures to rein in terror, Pakistan is bleeding on account of serial bomb blasts and rising inflation. A deadly bomb blast near a religious rally in Pakistan’s city of Quetta on February 17 created mass havoc, claiming seven dead and injuring over 25 people. The explosion took place just three days ahead of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) start of the new season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). PCB has decided to host the entire season of PSL in Pakistan and promised to provide the best security to players across the country. Earlier in January, a bomb blast triggered by ISIS during evening prayers in Quetta—inside a mosque used by t...

Has the Muslim World Formally Acknowledged Kashmir As Part Of India?

POLITICS  / K. Venkateshwar Rao 10 FEBRUARY 2020 The Muslim world appears to have formally acknowledged that Kashmir is an integral part of India. According to the prominent Dawn daily newspaper in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia declined Pakistan’s request for an emergency meeting of the council of Foreign Ministers on February 9 at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference. POLITICS  / K. Venkateshwar Rao 3 OCTOBER 2019 In this age of globalization, big and small organizations are forming strategic alliances and following the policy of mergers and acquisitions to strengthen their position in the business world. Globalization has proved to be a boon for not only organizations that seek to expand their business but also for small organizations that could not withstand the challenges of big organizations or lack finance for their expansion activities. Due to governments’ restriction and protection to domestic industries, multinational organizations are restricted from direct entry in a foreign land. Therefore, they enter into strategic alliances with small organizations and expand their reach, and small organizations enter such alliances to benefit in terms of technology transfer and finance. Thus, globalization is a win-win situation for both small and large companies. Similarly, the global community and superpowers have to ponder over the i...

Can a War Bogey Consolidate Imran Khan’s Premiership in Pakistan? POLITICS / K.Venkateshwar. Rao

Pakistan’s economy is on the brink of collapse, and Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing immense pressure from the opposition parties to bail out Pakistan from the precarious situation. With outstanding debt of more than $85 billion and the annual inflation rate at 11.63 percent in August, 2019 (the highest inflation rate since May, 2012), Pakistan is in dire straits with growing pressure from the people to relieve them from skyrocketing prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages, transport, clothing & footwear, furniture & household equipment, and miscellaneous goods & services. Against the backdrop of growing dissent among the masses, the abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir by the Narendra Modi-led government of India has come in like a shot in the arm for Imran Khan. PM Khan is leveraging it to create a war bogey with India to divert the attention of the people from the precarious economic condition. Why can Pakistan not wage war with India? According to t...
